X formally known as Twitter has been prone to frequent changes off recent. Elon Musk sees these changes as good and beneficial to the platform. Recently, there’s been information going across social media about Elon Musk putting a paywall to access X or Twitter
A paywall is a subscription pass meaning X or Twitter users will have to pay in order to access their accounts on this social media platform. In his interview with the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyuha, Elon Musk spoke about having a small monthly payment for the use of X to counter vast armies of bots. He also spoke of prioritizing premium users, emphasizing on how “bots cost a fraction of a penny, a tenth of a penny but even if it has to pay a few dollars or something, some minor amount, the effective costs of bots is very high”- Elon Musk. Because of this proposition, he came up with the “lower-tier pricing”. Elon’s statement wasn’t clear but it wasn’t outright confirmed so lots of mainstream media assumed he will put X on a paywall .This information has led to widespread distaste among users of the platform because most people are not willing to pay to access X. It turns out all the information going around was fake or in other words, it was misunderstood.
Elon Musk himself confirmed this information going around was false. Daily Laud, a popular News and Media account made a post about Elon Musk introducing a paywall to access Twitter because that was basically the headline of every mainstream media but CommunityNotes called out Daily Loud precisely saying:
“Misleading post. In an interview with the PM of Israel, Elon stated they will introduce lower tier pricing for premium members. There was absolutely no mention of charging anyone to use X

Elon then replied “And @CommunityNotes scores again”.
As you can see, CommunityNotes’ statement was confirmed by Elon Musk himself meaning there isn’t going to be any paywall to access X (Twitter).
People are not going to be charged for using X but lower tier pricing will be introduced for premium members of the platform.
