Reddits new contributor program will allow Monetization of text posts

How it works

In order to do this, contributors will have to apply to the program to see if they’re eligible. If they are, they’ll have to give gold to posts, comments, or other contributions they think are worth something. Eligible contributors that earn enough karma and gold can cash out their earnings for real money.

Contributor tiers

Contributors can be in one of two tiers (which is Contributor and Top Contributor) depending on the karma earned in the last 12 months and gold received. There’s going to be a standard payout rate for contributors and an enhanced or greater payout rate for Top contributors. The payout will be a function of multiplying the payout rate by the number of eligible gold that a contributor has received

From the above, there are four columns which are tier, Karma (over 12 month period), payout rate in USD(United States Dollars) per gold and minimum gold for payout. Contributor tier ranges from 100-4999 karma with a payout rate of $0.90 per 1 gold meanwhile Top contributor ranges from 5000+ karma with a payout rate of $1.00 per 1 gold. The minimum gold for payout is 10 for both tiers.

Closure

Reddit is the second social media platform after X which allows the monetization of text posts. This will change the game for social media platforms as a whole because it will motivate users hence maintain an active user base in the platform. This will also be good in the part of Reddit because this will make Reddit’s gold actually useful but consequently, it might increase the amount of bot posts on the app. Monetization of text posts might be an industry standard in the future.
