There’s once again another update about X, formally known as Twitter. For months now, X has been prone to frequent update; some good, some bad and others which won’t make a huge difference. These changes are like a welcome gesture from Elon Musk
Based on recent information revealed on the platform, X will remove interaction counts such as likes, retweet/repost count and possibly message count. The only exception will be the view count which will be visible in the main timeline. Elon Musk in his recent tweet said this is what they’re working on;
“Those ugly URL cards with repetitive text were making my eyes bleed. So much better now
Next, we’ll remove all action buttons with their superfluous interaction counts from the main timeline. Just view count will show, unless you tap into a post
This will greatly improve readability”.
According to Andrea Conway who is a designer at X, X’s current plan is to remove the engagement buttons and replace them with gestures such as double tap to like and swipe to reply.
“rn the plan is to remove both, but to do more with gestural interactions(double tap to like + looking at some swipe to reply stuff too now)”.
Currently, this is only a plan and it’s not confirmed to actually happen anytime soon. Elon revealed they’re working on this feature but it’s uncertain how long the team will take to accomplish this and if they’ll stick to this plan in the long run.
