Assassin’s Creed Shadows Surpasses 3 Million Players, Sets New Franchise Record on Steam

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the latest game installment in the Assassins Creed franchise. The game is set in 16th-century feudal Japan during the Sengoku period and follows the story of Yosuke, an African Samurai who served under the warlord Oda Nobunaga and Fujibayashi Naoe who is a skilled shinobi from Iga seeking vengeance for her father’s murder.

Over 3 million Players

Assassin’s creed shadows received a lot of reactions since its official announcement last year. These reactions were either positive or negative. The game also received a lot of backlash so it was unexpected if the game was going to be a success or a failure. Officially launching on March 20, 2025, some important insights about Assassin Creed Shadows have been revealed.

Ubisoft revealed Assassins Creed now has over three (3) million players in its first week of launch surpassing both Assassins creed surpassing Origins and Odyssey. The player count includes direct purchases and Ubisoft+ subscriptions. According to Ubisoft, Assassins Creed Shadows had the second highest Day 1 sales revenue in the Assassins Creed franchise history behind Valhalla.

Assassins Creed shadows also had the highest number of digital sales on PlayStation store for any Ubisoft game on its first day of release. This means Assassins Creed shadows had a record-breaking Day-1 launch on PlayStation in terms digital purchases surpassing all previous Ubisoft titles. Assassins Creed Shadows is also said to have one of the best community with over 40 million hours played so far.

Highest concurrent players on Steam

From the above, it’s already guaranteed the game has a strong launch but that is not all. The game has achieved a peak of 64,825 concurrent players on steam during its first weekend setting a new record for the franchise on the platform.

No Sales Figures

Despite the above good news, Ubisoft hasn’t released any sales figures so far which is very important. Sales reveal how successful a game is because the revenue can easily be compared to the game’s budget. It will also help determine how successful the game is compared to other Assassins Creed titles. For instance Assassins Creed Valhalla is considered the most successful game in the franchise because it had the biggest launch sales in Assassins Creed history earning over $1 billion in revenue.

Closure

Assassins Creed Shadows might have a large player base but that doesn’t translate to sales because it also takes into account Ubisoft subscriptions but it’s a guarantee the game launch is going to be successful. All Ubisoft has to do now is release and confirm sales figures to better understand how successful it is.
