Officially Launching on November 10, 2020, Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S are two of the most recent console releases from tech giant Microsoft. Xbox Series X is currently one of the most powerful gaming consoles with a GPU of 12.155 Teraflops, 16 GB GDDR6 RAM, 1 TB SSD, a 4k Native resolution at 60fps up to 120 and an optical drive(4K UHD Blu-ray). Meanwhile Xbox Series S is a weaker (4.006 Teraflops, 10 GB GDDR6 RAM, 1440p resolution along with no optical drive) and less costly version of Series X. Both consoles support backward compatibility with Series X supporting Digital titles and physical discs meanwhile Series S only supporting digital titles. On launch, fans could get the console at a price of $499 for Series X and approximately $299 for Series S but Microsoft’s recent policy reveals a change in the price for both consoles and fans are not happy about it.
An information was revealed by Microsoft suggesting the price increase of the Xbox Series X and S respectively. This priced increase is not only applicable to the consoles but also to video games and the controller. The price increase will take place is set for the global market but will depend on location. In the US, the Xbox Series X has a price increase of $100 making its current price at $599.99 and the Series S model is now $80 higher to $429.99. In Europe, the Series X console is €50 higher with a price of now €599.99 and the same increase of €50 for the Series S model now pricing at €349.99. In the UK, prices are up £20 for the Series X model making its current price £499.99 meanwhile prices is up £50 for the Series S model making its current price £299.99.
It was also stated the prices of some Xbox games will increase to $79.99 as from this Holiday Season. As for the game controllers, the Xbox wireless controller is now $64.99 from $60, and $69.99 for the color palette instead of $64.99
The price increase has left fans disheartened because it isn’t just Xbox but all gaming consoles. Manufacturers and game developers just want to make profit but it hurts consumers because of the high cost of living. The current Tariff war between the United States and China isn’t helping matters at all. This will definitely have an effect on game sales and across different gaming consoles.
