The Boruto : Naruto Next Generation Anime is made up of a lot of arcs. Not all these are are from the manga with some solely being anime originals with references to the manga. These arcs can both be good or bad making it difficult for some fans to be able to pick what to watch. Today, I will be talking about the top 10 best anime canon arcs in Boruto. Remember, this list is based on my preferences but I think it should be good.
After what happened at the previous Chunin exam, Konoha decided to host another. That wasn’t solely the reason for this exam. From my Naruto knowledge, I know the Chunin exams are supposed to be held two times a year. This is undoubtedly the best anime canon arc in Boruto. It takes place from Boruto : Naruto Next Generation episode 221-227. This arc was a measuring rod showing how kids from Boruto’s generation have grown over the course of time. There were some amazing fights and although the arc wasn’t super long, it was still good. There were some amazing fights in this arc which included Inojin vs Houki, Sarada vs Chocho and een Denki Vs Tsubaki. The fight choreography and animations in some episodes were really good even though some episodes were disappointing. I personally enjoyed it.
This isn’t the official name of the arc but this is what I call it as a name wasn’t given because it was fused to Naruto shinden in the official website even though it’s not actually part of it. This arc takes the ninth spot in my list. it takes place from Boruto : Naruto Next Generation episode 98-103. The arc follows Team 7 and Team 25 on a mission to investigate mysterious birds attacking residents of a village in the outskirts of the land of fire. In this arc, we got reintroduced to Jugo and Karin who are some fan favorite characters. The arc honestly had some good interactions. What made this arc stand out was how it paved the way for Sumire’s character development. In the manga, a lot of Sumire-related information wasn’t given to fans. In fact she didn’t even start out as a Shinobi there. In the anime on the other hand, Sumire grew on fans. We watched her change overtime. This arc is very important as Sumire’s resolve is explained. The arc also had consistent animation and along with beautiful themes. There were some hits and misses but the point was clear to fans.
This was the first arc in the Boruto anime. This arc comprises of the first 15 episodes of the Boruto anime. Fans got introduced to the new gen characters in this arc making it very important. It is honestly one of the most wholesome arcs in Boruto. The interactions were gold since it was our first perspectives on the new characters. Fans got to learn a lot and even though this arc wasn’t the best. It was truly an amazing arc fans will look back
Boruto and his classmates go on a field trip in the hidden mist with Kagura Karatachi as their guide but something unexpected happens. This arc takes place from Boruto: Naruto Next Generation episode 25-32. We got to see the growth that has taken place in the hidden mist. Unfortunately, Boruto and the others are involved in an attack by the New Seven Ninja Swordsmen in an attempt to take over the village. This arc showcased a lot of amazing fights involving Boruto and Sarada. I think this arc is very underrated. Yes, there were some inconsistencies in the storytelling but it was still good. Fights involving Boruto and Sarada were top notch and Kagura who is the grandson of Yagura was also introduced
There’s no denying the five nations have faced several political issues. Some are internal while others external conflicts. It takes place from Boruto : Naruto Next Generation episode 40-47.The arc actually starts from episode 43 because from episodes 40, 41 and 42 are the new team 7’s first mission. The Byakuya gang arc points this out especially dealing with class struggles in Konoha. Boruto and Shikadai are at the center of this arc with foes trying to push a deadly propaganda that may destroy the peace in konoha. This arc is actually amazing and really underrated. Hidden leaf has been prosperous and successful but this arc shows the cost of its success and its prosperity. Some beautiful themes were used in the course of this arc such as abandonment, betrayal and love
This arc takes place from Boruto: Naruto Next Generations episode 120 to episode 235. Boruto and Sasuke are facing off against the mysterious Otsutsuki Urashiki, with the help of other fan favorite characters such as Gaara, Kankuro, Temari, Shinki and even Shikadai. In search Of Urashiki, Boruto and Sasuke go back in time in an attempt to catch him. The nostalgia hit like crazy in this arc. It was truly magnificent and I’m very sure fans loved wholesome moments between Boruto and characters from the previous generation. I honestly think if this arc was more slice of life, it would’ve been better. Although the arc is good because of nostalgia, there were some issues. This arc honestly had major power scaling issues involving Otsutsuki Urashiki.
This was a prelude to the Mujina bandit’s arc. It takes place from Boruto : Naruto Next Generation episode 141-147 I put this one high because of how the anime used this arc to make the Mujina bandit’s arc more comprehensible. In the manga, there was some unanswered question which made readers confused for distance how Shojiji knew about Boruto. This arc cleared up a lot making things more understandable. The arc follows Team 7 sent to the Blood Prison to investigate an escape. The arc was well written and greatly served its purpose setting up for the Mujina bandits arc which laid some emphasis on Kara arc
This arc takes place from Boruto: Naruto Next Generation episode 71-92Mitsuki the son of Orochimaru has been going through a lot of identity issues. He goes on a quest trying to know more about himself but he hurts others in the process. Mitsuki knows he isn’t human making him undergo this journey. Boruto, Sarada and others go after him trying to understand more about his mindset because they’ve never actually paid attention before. This arc was very lengthy so a lot of people didn’t like watching it weekly but the development was simply beautiful. Watching Mitsuki’s motivation and the others resolve for him was truly amazing. There was a lot of world building in this arc along with some deep lore discussions with great emphasis on Hidden Stone. One aspect I also like about this arc was its foreshadowing which makes sense when talking about some recent manga events. This arc was heavily criticized for being long but if you actually binge watches it, you’ll find it really amazing
This isn’t the official name of the arc but it’s the name I gave to it. Other Boruto fans would usually call this arc the squid games arc because it really referenced squid game and if you watch it, you’ll know what I’m talking about. This is another good anime canon arc and it took place from episode 275-281. Boruto survives a train accident but he’s not the only person. All survivors have to get through games. There were lots of plot twists in this arc and it was so unpredictable I couldn’t determine what was going to happen next. What made this arc stand out was its end after multiple plot twists and the search for answers. We also got introduced to The Eight Kara member that was believed by many fans to be nonexistent. The animation was good along with the storytelling. There were a lot of mysteries in this arc along with some additional characters being so relatable
This is undoubtedly the best anime canon arc in Boruto. It takes place from Boruto : Naruto Next Generation episode 157-176. This arc isn’t manga canon but I feel as though it’s a must watch before going into the Vessel arc. The Kara Actuation arc is centered on two inner Kara members known as Victor and Deepa trying to accomplish their evil goals secretive from the Kara organization. As a manga reader, this arc made the story more complete setting up for the vessel arc. There were a lot of questions fans asked themselves during the vessel arc for instance who victor was. This arc cleared up that question. It had a consistent animation, amazing character development for our protagonists, and amazing set up for the vessel arc adding more depth to the manga canon arcs. Though it might start up a little slow, it picks up superfast. Aside from that, it also greatly benefited world building as villages such as the Land of Rain, Land of Silence and even land of valleys explored.
Aside from the above, there are other good anime canon arcs out there such as the Academy Graduation arc. The manga canon arcs are always amazing when I watch through. I hope you enjoyed this list.
