Many fans are unsure of their feelings with the confirmation of the Sasuke Retsuden anime adaption in Boruto during jump Festa 2023. Fans were, as we all know, thrilled about the manga adaptation of the novel; nevertheless, while some fans loved the idea, others outright despised it. Although being only a brief adaptation of the novel, the manga has amassed a large following of devoted readers and has received millions of online readings. There is a lot of love and a lot of hate. Although being extremely popular, a manga is not as popular as anime. With an anime adaptation, it receives a lot more attention, and because it's in Boruto, you know there will be major conflict between both fandoms, making this adaptation both a blessing and a curse for both, as will be discussed below.
After the anime's conclusion in 2017, fans of the series have been eager—some might even say desperate—for fresh Naruto material. Several viewers found it difficult to accept the loss of their favourite show. Some fans feel that Boruto won't have the same kind of lasting impact on them as Naruto had, even after the release of a sequel. Almost 20 different light novels were available as content (precisely 26). Getting a physical copy or even one in a different language wasn't a simple task. The anime adaptation is merely the "icing on the cake," and the manga adaptation is actually a blessing for fans who were itching for more Naruto content. Boruto already has a fanbase, and with them, the Boruto anime will capture the interest of Naruto fans, which will benefit the show and viewership overall increasing the income of the creators. More money implies more content, and as long as Boruto continues to make money, this will not end anytime soon.
Sasuke Retsuden may have some perks, but it also has its own set of troubles and hate. The novel itself is not universally loved, as there has been much criticism. For example, Naruto becoming ill with a sickness that fans are clueless of, and Sasuke unable to easily defeat a dinosaur in stealth form despite being one of the strongest characters in the Naruto universe. Supporters may use this as a justification to despise Boruto even though he has nothing to do with it. Furthermore, some Naruto fans have great hopes for the adaptation, and if Boruto fails to meet those expectations, it will fuel more hatred towards Boruto.
To conclude, it is both a blessing and a curse. This adaptation will cause tension in both fandoms, but that tension has always existed, so nothing will change.
