Nintendo announces Live Action Legend of Zelda Film

Nintendo just announced (Wednesday November 8, 2023) the live action film of Legend of Zelda. This information was released on Nintendo’s official site and quickly made its way into the mainstream media with major news outlets reporting on the news.

Nintendo is a popular Japanese video game company which creates game consoles and also develops, publishes and releases video games. So far, Nintendo has sold more than 5.6 billion video games and over 800 million hardware units globally hence making it a trusted brand all over the world. Some of Nintendo’s most popular IP’s include Pokemon, Splatoon, Donkey Kong, Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Animal Crossing.


About the Upcoming Live Action


According to the information revealed, the film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto who is the representative director of Nintendo and Avi Arad who is the chairman of Arad Productions Inc. This film will be directed by Wes Ball and it will be financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc with Nintendo financing more that 50%. Sony will handle the theatrical distribution of the film worldwide.

Avi Arad used to be the CEO of Marvel Entertainment until he later on created Arad Productions in 2006. Arad has launched the Live action Spider-Man films and worked on other Marvel IPs such as Iron Man, Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse


Past Rumors


Before this official announcement, there were rumors speculating on the internet regarding the development of a live action Zelda remake. This was due to the insane box office success of the new Super Mario Bros Movie which greatly exceeded expectations and made a lot of money at the global box office. As of the writing of this article, The Super Mario Bros Movie has made a total of $1.36 billion making it one of the best-selling animated movies of all time.


Closure


As of right now, we don’t know if the live action film will have a brand new story in the same universe or if its going to be a remake of an existing game. The Legend of Zelda franchise is huge consisting of over 20 games so if it turns out it’s a remake, there’s a huge possibility the game wont cross across lots of Zelda games but only a select few. The cast as of right now is also unknown as this information is brand new. So far, the only information confirmed is the live action, its producers and the director in charge.
