TOHO animation announces Culling Game Arc anime adaptation in Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is one of the most popular anime’s of 2023. Animated by Studio MAPPA, the show did not fail to disappoint. The second season began on July 6 2023 and ended on December 28 2023 with the release of episode


Culling Games Arc announced


Jujutsu Kaisen has officially announced the anime adaptation of the Culling Game arc. This information was released in the official TOHO YouTube channel. Jujutsu Kaisen is animated by Studio MAPPA but TOHO is the production company. This means TOHO own the rights to the show and provides MAPPA the necessary funds for animation. It was done so in a trailer which quickly made its way to other social media platforms such as X (formally known as Twitter), Reddit, Facebook and Instagram.


About the trailer


The trailer was 20 seconds long so it honestly didn’t reveal a lot. We got the studio behind it which is MAPPA and some key characters. They include Yuji Itadori, Choso, Suguru and others

The trailer consisted of animated shots of characters from the manga. I’m actually surprised because it hasn’t been too long the final episode of Season 2 aired (it has barely been a day). Season 2 had a fantastic animation so this might honestly might be very stressful for the animators considering they are already working on the upcoming Season. MAPPA at the moment is also working on Chainsaw Man Season 2. These working conditions is going to be really taxing on its animators but I don’t think MAPPA cares.


About the Culling Games


I won’t reveal a lot about the Culling Games arc just in-case you are avoiding spoilers. This arc is the ninth arc in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.

It’s a tournament orchestrated by Kenjaku who is the ancient sorcerer with the aim of ushering a new golden age of Jujutsu sorcery. Players gain points in this game by killing one another so it’s brutal. The goal of this game is to accumulate cursed energy by pitting the best sorcerers against each other. These sorcerers were from the 10 colonies of Japan and not a specific location so there are going to be a lot of new faces. In the manga, there was little breathing room between each fight and there are a number of rules each competitor must follow or else they will be subject to punishment depending on which rule was broken.


Closure


The culling Games arc is most likely going to be Season 3 and it immediately takes place after the end of the Shibuya arc which was Season 2. No release date was given in this trailer but do not expect it in 2024. It will most likely be revealed in 2025 or the later future.
