The Gaming industry is currently one of the fastest growing industries in the world. I’m not only talking about console games but also Mobile and desktop games. Because of this, there has been the rise of lots of gaming events. These Events tend to take place on an annual basis and it unites game fans all over the world. One of these gaming event which used to take place in the past is E3.
E3 known as Electronic Entertainment Expo is an American trade exposition/exhibition which emphasizes on gaming. It’s organized by Entertainment Software Association (ESA). During this event, game developers, publishers, manufacturers and hardware related to gaming are made known to the public. It had a consistent run yearly from 1995 to 2019 with the exception 2007 but things changed after the pandemic.
Unfortunately, there’s a bad news. E3 as of the moment has permanently been cancelled. This information was released in E3’s Official X account and other media outlets. E3 released this info with a message reading;
“After more than two decades of E3, each one bigger than the last, the time has come to say goodbye. Thanks for the memories”.
The reason behind this cancellation is unknown as of the moment because E3 was usually successful year-on-year. This message has left gamers in a state of confusion. Though if we look at past instances, this might not be a surprise. If you have no idea, E3 hasn’t consistently taken place this past few years. This event was cancelled in 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, it took place but it was a virtual event. The ESA had planned to return to an in-person convention in 2023 but it was cancelled because all major publishers pulled out of the event. Looking at E3’s recent history, this permanent cancellation isn’t too surprising. There’s no definitive reason why but we can all hypothesize the reason for its cancellation.
Aside from this event, there are other annual events when talking about gaming. Some include Summer Game fest, PlayStation Showcase, Xbox Showcase, Nintendo Showcase, Game Awards and much more. Its permanent cancellation was unexpected but gamers will still move on.
