Fortnite Fans Will be Able to Create Walking Dead-Themed Islands with New Update

The Walking Dead will be making its way to Fortnite again with the confirmation the release of The Walking Dead Universe Islands. On March 25, 2025, Epic Games officially announced Fortnite x The Walking Dead Universe. This collaboration led to the release of the Walking Dead assets for Fortnite Creative and also the UEFN (Unreal Editor For Fortnite). Players had access to some of these assets (Walking Dead NPCs, items and more) but the maps or islands utilizing the Walking Dead content wasn’t available. These islands will finally be making its way to Fortnite with the new announcement.


Why The Walking Dead Islands in Fortnite


After a months of waiting, Fortnite fans will finally have the Walking Dead Universe Islands The delay for Fortnite Island content was because of Epic Games’ policy requiring creators to sign an IP addendum (extra information) and agree to share 12% of earnings with Skybound Entertainment. Fortnite released a very short(6 second) teaser commemorating this crossover. It’s a very short teaser highlighting Negan from the Walking Dead in Fortnite. Negan was introduced in the Fortnite item shop on April 4, 2025 making him the first Walking Dead since 2021. So far, no other skins have been confirmed.


What it Means


This information is exciting because this new update will allow creators to build custom islands using official assets from the Walking Dead such as the Walkers which are NPC’s that other players can fight. In short, players can visit Walking Dead-themed islands made by creators and fight zombies. Weapons like Negans bat “Lucille” will be accessible. Environment props and scenery from the Walking Dead Universe can also be used. These Islands won’t be part of the main Fortnite Battle Royale mode because they are part of Fortnite Creative and the UEFN. Fortnite.


Closure


The current Season or “atmosphere” in Fortnite is currently Star Wars so most updates so far in regards to additional content was centered on Star Wars. Fortnite x The Walking Dead Universe islands begins tomorrow May 16. Fortnite update v35.10 will is planned for May 16 release so after that, players will be able to create custom Walking Dead islands after that.
