There’s so much excitement in the Dragon Ball community because the Dragon Ball Super anime is officially returning. New information about the future of the Dragon Ball Super anime was revealed during the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri 2026 event held in Japan as part of the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebration, and it was confirmed that the anime series will continue with a brand new project. According to report from multiple news outlets, the upcoming anime will be titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol and it will adapt the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc from the manga. This arc takes place after the Tournament of Power. The announcement confirmed the anime is still in production but no release date was announced. What Was Announced at Genkidamatsuri 2026


The Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri 2026 event revealed that Dragon Ball Super Anime will continue with a new installment titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. This information was confirmed through an announcement trailer unveiled during the event. This project is a direct continuation of the Dragon Ball Super storyline following the Universe Survival Arc, which is also known as the Tournament of Power. The Tournament of Power concluded the anime’s original run in 2018 and fans have been waiting since then for something to come up until now. This isn’t going to be an anime like Dragon Ball Daima but it will actually continue the Dragon Ball Storyline

The new series will adapt the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc which is a popular storyline in the manga that centers on the Galactic Patrol. In this arc in the manga, Goku and Vegeta work alongside members of the Galactic Patrol to confront Moro. Moro is a powerful villain (Mage) referred to as the “Planet Eater” whose abilities allow him to drain energy from entire Worlds. The announcement confirmed that this arc will be the foundation of the anime’s return and there’s so much excitement. The reveal took place during the anniversary event in Japan and was presented by Masako Nozawa, who is the long time voice of Goku. Masako announced it alongside producer Akio Iyoku and they emphasized on how the project is an official continuation rather than a spin-off.


Where This Fits in the Dragon Ball Timeline


The upcoming Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol anime is set to adapt one of the most exciting arcs from the Dragon Ball Super manga. The Dragon Ball Super anime originally ran from 2015 to 2018, concluding with the Universe Survival Arc (also known as the Tournament of Power) in both anime and manga formats. The Galactic Patrol Prisoner saga begins in the manga starting at Chapter 42 and running through Chapter 67. This arc is popularly known as the Moro arc and during this arc, Goku, Vegeta and the Galactic Patrol faces an escaped sorcerer known as Moro who can drain the life of planets. Moro was so talked about in the Manga because of how powerful he was. The announcement confirmed that this project is in production but there’s still no official release date.

In addition to the anime content, a new game titled Dragon Ball Project: Age 1000 was also announced leading to more excitement. These announcements has revived the sleeping Dragon Ball community while fans wait for the return of the Dragon Ball Super anime.
