Bluey fans tend to ask themselves who voices Bluey and Bingo. This has been a common question
among fans and the reasoning behind this question makes sense. The person who voices Bluey is never credited and for a popular show such as this, that makes fans a little bit confused. There’s a valid reason why the voices of characters such as Bluey abnd Bingo is kept a secret meanwhile other characters such as Bandit is known to the public.
Why Bluey's Voice Actor is Kept a Secret
The Youngsters in Bluey are voiced by actual kids. According to Ludo Studio, the creators of Bluey and interviews with showrunner Joe Brumm, the reason why the voice actors of youngsters in Blue isn’t made known to the public is because they want their identities protected so they can grow up without pressure or attention. This information was revealed by Kidspot in the past with Melanie Zanetti who is the voice actress of Chilli. Melanie said:
“All the children on the show are members of the family in production. I am so glad that the creative on the show decided that no one would be in the credits to protect the young cast.”
These kids are not professional actors. They’re simply children of the crew and the team chose to prioritize childhood over fame.
Why Children Voice the Characters in Bluey
A unique aspect of the Bluey show is that many of the younger characters are voiced by real children instead of adults. This decision helps the show sound more natural and authentic because most adult viewers can usually tell when a show is voiced by kids. This is because when real kids perform dialogue, you can immediately tell they are real children by their tone and laughter. The creators of Bluey emphasized on how this was to capture the playful nature and imaginative nature of childhood which is an important theme of the show. In short, using the kids to do the voices of the young in the show is like a way to maintain realism and many viewers appreciate that about the show.
How Bluey’s Voices Are Recorded
Bluey’s voices are recorded in a way the young actors are comfortable and safe during the process. The children record their lines in short sessions to avoid fatigue and to also make sure they are enthusiastic. They don’t force the kids but rather give the kids time. The production team usually asks for multiple rakes to capture variations in the children tone, laughter, and emotional expression so the dialogue feels authentic to viewers. Some child actors also record at local studios or even home studios and they are always supervised by a parent or guardian for safety reasons. This also makes it look very professional because its kids. After recording process, the audio is edited and synced with the animation to make sure timing, reactions and emotion fit perfectly with what’s on screen.
Why Keeping the Actor Secret Improves the Show
Keeping the Child actors identities private is a very smart decision by Bluey’s production team. It’s not just a way of privacy but it makes the audience have more trust in the people in charge. Viewers can fully focus on Bluey as a character rather than be distracted by the real child behind Blueys voice. When I make mention of being distracted by the “child behind Bluey’s voice”, I mean viewers wont be distracted by a child performer reading lines because it sticks. Anonymity also allows the children to grow up openly and free from the paparazzi and media. Overall, it was a wise decision because it benefits both the show runners and the young actors who voice these super popular characters.
Adult Voice Actors
The case of Adult cast members is very different from the kids. They are actually credited. Bandit Heeler is voiced by David McCormack, Chilli Heeler by Melanie Zanetti, Uncle Stripe Heeler by Dan Brumm, Aunt Trixie Heeler by Myf Warhurst, Chris Heeler by Chris Brumm, Grandpa Bob Heeler by Ian McFadyen, Grandad Mort Cattle by Laurie Newman,Pat is voiced by Brad Elliot, Lucky’s Mum is voiced by Anna Daniels, Calypso is voiced by Megan Washing, Brandy by rose Byrne, Wendy is voiced by Beth Durack and/or Emily Taheny, Judo’s Mum is also voiced by Beth Durack and/or Emily Taheny and finally Alfie is voiced by Robert Irwin.
Closure
The reason the voice actors of Bluey, Bingo and other small characters is to protect the kids. The creators want the kids to be kids and not celebrities. Bluey is an extremely popular show so keeping the voice actors of the kids private is good for the well-being of those involved.
