Twitch CEO, Dan Clancy

Twitch is one of the most popular streaming services in the world. You have probably heard of the platform already. Launched in June 6, 2011, twitch is an American live-streaming service which focuses on video game live-stream, music broadcasts, creative content and much more. In 2024, the platform is estimated to have more than 100 million monthly views, 15 million daily and its currently one of the most visited websites in the world.

Twitch is not profitable

In a recent information revealed, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy confirms the platform is not yet profitable despite its popularity. He also added Twitch is the way it is now (not yet extinct) because Amazon has supported the platform. Dan Clancy said “We aren’t profitable at this point, Amazon has been extremely supportive of Twitch”.

Dan Clancy revealed this information in a short video stream found on the platform. What stood out with what he said was the fact Amazon has been extremely supportive of Twitch. If you didn’t know, Amazon is now the parent company of Twitch and has access to it after it acquired the platform for $970 million in 2014. Because of this, Amazon has been funding Twitch keeping the platform alive and investing in its growth.

Closure

Despite Twitch’s success, there were already rumors and speculation of the platform being non-profitable. It is well known but it wasn’t confirmed. Dan Clancy basically confirmed what people already thought at large. There are a lot of reasons to explain for this, one is bandwidth allocation for thousands of people, there’s immense data storage. Some servers store huge amounts of data. You might as well also add taxes that vary based on location. Twitch despite this has major sources of such as brand deals, ads, bounties, prime, turbo, merchandise, donations and much more.
