PS5

Sony made an announcement earlier this week and it was about the number of PlayStation 5 consoles sold. According to this report, Sony has sold over 50 million PlayStation 5 consoles since the initial release of the console.

Hardware sale Earnings

PlayStation 5 was released on November 19 2020 meaning it accomplished these numbers in a span of three years. This means Sony has made $25 billion in hardware sales during the past three years. This is taking into account all the chip shortages which took place during its early life-span. Because of the Coronavirus pandemic, AMD chip shortage was prevalent which limited the number of PlayStation 5’s in the market. This shortage brought about other issues such as problems restocking, and scarcity.

A milestone?

With all the issues explained above, Sony selling over 50 million PS5 consoles is an amazing feat in itself. Though the brand is trusted, there are a lot of global issues limiting the success of the PlayStation 5. There are wars and the global financial market is going through a lot of issues as of the moment. Negatively impacting both the developed and developing world.

The PS5 is more in supply now than the past but in some parts of the world, the console is still scarce. It’s common in the western world but limited in some parts of the East and global South. Restocking has been quite problematic.

Closure

Based on leaks related to the PS5 pro codenamed “Project Trinity”, this console is going to be the “most powerful gaming console”. The release date for the PS5 pro is currently unknown but expect it soon. There are three main versions of the PS5 So far and they are Sony PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Digital and the upcoming PlayStation 5 Slim all with varying advantages.
