X will soon give users control to determine who can or cannot download videos

Some time ago, I wrote an article about the brand new Download feature on X. With this brand new feature, Users can now download Videos on X but there is a limit. You see, this only applies to DM’s so you won’t be able to download videos on your main timeline. Also, this only applies to videos released on the day this featured went live (January 20, 2024). There is a brand new update which I will be talking about.

One aspect I love about X’s employees is that all of them use the platform and they are very open especially when revealing information about changes to the platform. These changes can both be positive or negative. Based on the information leaked on the platform, X will soon give users control to determine who can or who cannot download your videos. This means with this new update, you will be able to control how others download videos you’ve sent to them.

This information was courtesy of @Swak_12. He revealed this information saying “soon we would be able to make videos posted/DM’ed, not to be downloaded by default”. There was also a screenshot that came along with the message. This screenshot was from 10.27.0-beta. 1 Android.

In this screenshot, we see a main header (Audience and tagging) which enables users manage information they want others to see on the platform. There are three sub options. The first is “Protect your posts” which lets only current followers and people approved be able to see your post.

The second is “Protect your videos” which when enabled, Videos you post or send via DM will not be downloaded by default. The final option here was “Photo tagging” which determines if others can tag you or not.


Closure


The new download feature despite its limits has lots of benefits. If it applied to videos on the main timeline then it would be a complete game changer. This upcoming feature might not be much but it will have its own set of advantages.
