Epic Games Store will be coming to Android and IOS with Fortnite

Fortnite was released in 2017 eventually becoming one of the most popular games in the world. Fortnite at its peak of its popularity became cross platform and even made its way to mobile devices. Fortnite first released in the Apple store on April 2nd, 2018. Users who had IOS devices such as Iphones and Ipads could download and play Fortnite on their devices but something happened


Why Fortnite was removed from the Apple App Store


Two year later (August, 2020), Fortnite was removed from the Apple App store. This was because of a dispute between Epic Games, the developers of Fortnite and Apple. Let me talk about the root of the conflict. The conflict arose because Epic Games introduced a direct payment system within the Fortnite app, bypassing Apple’s in-app purchasing system. This move was a violation of the App store’s guidelines which required developers to use Apple’s payment system and pay a 30% commission on in-app purchases

In response to Epic’s violation of the App store’s guidelines, Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store. New users could no longer download the game and existing users couldn’t receive updates. Epic Games decided to file a lawsuit against Apple alleging antitrust violations and monopolistic behavior. Since then, both companies have been in a legal case.


Epic Games Store will be coming to Android and IOS

Earlier this year, it was announced Fortnite will be coming back to IOS even though it might be limited only to EU users. There were some people who were skeptical about if it was true or not but that’s no longer the case. Epic Games confirmed on Wednesday(March 20, 2024) that it will bring Epic Games Store to both Android and IOS later this year. This was during the State of Unreal Event at GDC (Game Development Conference) 2024 which took place a few days back. The Company also confirmed the store will feature Fortnite along with other third party games A few days back, we got a first look at Epic Games Store for Apple which confirms Fortnite’s return.

There were several other announcements during the event. The event had information about games and also new features of the Unreal Engine. It was a very interesting event. You can watch it is you have an hour to spare. There’s so much excitement about the return of Fortnite on IOS and also the release of Epic Games Store on Android and IOS.
