Clash Royale is centered on card progression, where players upgrade cards to increase their strength. As players progress in the game, many will encounter a feature called Star Level and people who don’t known what Star Level is in Clash Royale might be confused. Some players might even believe Star Level makes them stronger because of how it sounds but that is not the case. Star Level in Clash Royale does not boost damage, health, or gameplay performance in anyway because it is a form of cosmetic progression in the game. This article is going to explain what Star level actually do, how they work, why Supercell added them, and whether upgrading them is worth your Star Points.
Star Level in Clash Royale is a visual or cosmetic upgrade system that becomes available once a card reaches its maximum upgrade level. Unlike normal card upgrades, Star levels do not affect gameplay or card statistics because it’s a cosmetic upgrade. Upgrading a Cards Star Level changes its appearance depending on the card and Star level tier. This appearance change might be seen in the form of golden borders, golden effects during deployment and enhanced visuals during battle. Some cards gain more noticeable effects than others.
There are 3 Star Levels in Clash Royale. These include Star Level 1 that require your card level to be 7 and 5000 Star Points, Star Level 2which requires card level to be 10 and 10,000 Star Points, and Star Level 3 which required a card level of 13 and 20,000 Star points. Before proceeding to the next section, I would like to point out that not every card has all three Star levels.
Star Points in Clash Royale are a special in-game currency used exclusively to unlock and upgrade Star Levels in Clash Royale. Unlike Gold, Star Points cannot be used to upgrade card stats and they are only earned once you progress far enough in the game. Players can earn Star Points in Clash Royale by donating cards after those cards are already in their maximum level, receiving duplicate max level cards from chests and shop conversions and limited time events. Star Points are earned gradually over time and they are mean t for long term players who have already focused on normal card upgrades. Also, as you increase a cards Star level, the Star Point cost increases, making higher tiers more of a prestige investment than a necessity.
Star Levels in Clash Royale was intentionally designed to not affect gameplay performance. Upgrading a Star Level does not change a cards damage, hitpoints, elixir cost, attack speed, or any other combat related stat and a card with Star Levels performs exactly the same as a non-starred card at the same level. Supercell designed Star Levels this way to preserve the competitive balance of the game. This is because if cosmetic upgrades increased stats, it would create a pay-to-win advantage especially in ladder and tournaments. Since Star Levels are purely cosmetic, this means real power progression remain tied to normal card levels and gameplay.
This design choice helps keep matches in Clash Royale fair and based on individual skills. Even though Starred cards have a golden appearance, they do not hit harder, last longer, or perform better than non-starred cards in Clash Royale.
The true purpose of Star Level in Clash Royale is visual prestige and player expression. Star Levels in this game allows players to customize the appearance of their cards by adding gold accent, enhanced deployment effects and unique visual details that stand out during battles. Even though they do not have any gameplay advantages, Fully Starred cards in Clash Royale might look intimidating to new players in the game as it’s a sign of dedication, experience and investment in the game. It’s also good for players with Starred cards to remember that its effect is purely visual because the effects of these cards can be distracting.
Upgrading Star Levels depends on where you are in Clash Royale. Upgrading Star Levels in Clash Royale is best suited for long time players, maxed(or near maxed) accounts, and players who enjoy cosmetic customization. If you fall among groups of people that fit into these categories mentioned, Star Levels offer a meaningful way to continue progressing after most upgrades are complete.
On the other hand, Star Levels are not a priority for new Clash Royale players or those still working on upgrading core cards. In these stages of the game, gold and resources are better spent in improving card levels and building competitive decks. A smart approach for new players is to focus on performance first then invest Star Points once progression in the game slows down naturally (near maxed accounts).
Star Levels in Clash Royale are a cosmetic progression feature designed to reward long term play without affecting balance. They do not boost stats, or damage ensuring fair competition across all skill levels. They instead offer a visual flair, prestige, personalization for players who value appearance and expression. In short, Star Levels is a form of cosmetic upgrade in Clash Royale that doesn’t compromise the games competitive integrity.
