Screen Record is a feature on iPhone that lets you capture or record what happens on your screen. It can be you scrolling, watching vids, recording tutorials etc. Even though the feature was designed for iPhone, it doesn’t always work perfectly. There are instances where iPhone users complain of a missing screen record button, the record stopping unexpectedly or the video saves without sound. These issues can be frustrating to lots of users especially if you need to record something quickly. Luckily, these issues are caused by settings, storage limitations and storage restrictions so they can be solved. This article is going to explain why screen record on iPhone doesn’t work and fixes that will solve the problem.
There are several reasons screen record may fail on an iPhone. One of the major reasons is that the feature isn’t enabled in Control Center and this prevents iPhone users from accessing the recording tool. There are other instances where its caused by system restrictions or storage problem (for instance insufficient storage). An example of system restriction here is how Screen time settings may block screen recording if Parental controls is enabled. So system restriction issues can also be solved easily so you shouldn’t worry when I make mention of system restriction. Insufficient storage means low space preventing iPhone from saving recorded videos.
Other issues that might negatively affect Screen record in iPhone include a disabled microphone, temporary software glitches, outdated iOS software and apps that block recording (for security reasons). I will touch on all these problems when talking about the fix of Screen Record not working on iPhone.
The most common cause of Screen Record feature not working on iPhone is because it’s not been added to Control Center. If it isn’t enabled, the record button will not appear when you open the Control Center. Most iPhone users don’t know about this so they think it’s a serious device malfunction if Screen Record doesn’t show up. In order to enable screen recording on iPhone, open Settings -> look for Control Center and tap it -> Scroll down to More Controls -> Find Screen Recording -> Tap the + icon next to it. When you do this, open Control Center. You should see the screen record button and you can tap to start recording.
This is another reason Screen Record might not work on iPhone. Screen Time Restriction is a parental control setting that allows users to block certain features on the device. When Screen record is restricted using this settings, the button will look greyed out or it might just fail to record. It depends on the device. To check if this setting is blocking the feature, go to Settings -> Tap Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions -> Content Restrictions -> Scroll down and tap Screen Recording -> then Select Allow.
Sometimes Screen Record works perfectly on iPhone but the video saves without any sounds. This usually happens because the Microphone is turned off. Lots of people encounter this problem because iPhone screen record usually doesn’t Microphone audio by default so it has to be enabled. In order to turn on Microphone for recording, Open Control Center -> Press and Hold the Screen Record Button -> Tap the Microphone Icon -> Turn the Microphone ON and start the record. Your Screen Records should capture your voice and other sounds when Microphone has been enabled.
You should have storage before doing Screen Record on iPhone. This is because Screen Recordings are saved as video files in the Photos app which means they require storage on your device. Your recordings might fail to start or stop suddenly if you are running low on storage. You should also know how to check your storage but if you don’t know, open Settings -> Go to General -> Select iPhone Storage. You should check your storage so you delete some stuff in your phone if your device’s storage is almost full. Screen records should work properly when you have enough storage.
Low Power Mode in iPhone devices is designed to extend battery life by reducing some background activities on your device. This feature is honestly useful when your battery is running low and you can’t find a steady place to charge it but it can interfere with other system resources including screen recording. In short if your iPhone is low battery and Screen Record doesn’t work, you should try to disable Low Power Mode. In order to disable Low Power mode, go to Settings -> Battery -> Low Power mode -> and Toggle OFF. You can try Screen Recording after you do this to see if it’s the cause of the issue. You should try this option if the others don’t work. This isn’t a main cause of Screen record not working but it happens in some occasion.
On rare occasions, temporary software glitches can cause screen recording to stop working. If this happens, you can try restarting your iPhone to solve minor system issues and also refresh background processes. When your device turns off and comes back on, try to screen record again. It’s also good to update your device to the latest iOS versions. Lots of iPhone users don’t check for updates and that’s not nice. In order to check your iPhone updates, Open Settings -> General -> Select Software Update. If the update is available, you should install it and restart your device. You should also check your storage because updates also take up space.
Some apps block screen recording for security or copyright reasons. If this is the case then Screen Recording may show a black screen or the recording may fail to start. Platforms such as Netflix and other video streaming services use digital rights protection to prevent users from copying protected content. Banking and financial apps can also block screen recording to protect sensitive information. These limitations cannot be bypassed because it’s intentional.
Open Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner of your screen. You can try swiping up if you use older iPhone models. You need to find the Screen Record Icon which looks like a small circle inside another circle. Tap the icon and recording should start in some seconds. You can stop recording by tapping the red status bar at the top of the screen to stop. In short Experiment on iOS’ screen record feature and to know how to use it well.
Most screen record problems are caused by setting issues, storage limitations, or system restrictions. Enabling this feature in Control Center, turning on Microphone and freeing up some space can resolve this issue. You could also restart your phone or update iOS to fix glitches if screen record doesn’t work. Luckily, it should be easy to fix this issue.
