How to Check Artemis 2 Location

Artemis II is NASA’s first crewed mission toward the Moon in over 50 years so its following the legacy of the Apollo program. There’s a lot of excitement so many people are wondering where they can check information about this spacecraft be it its current location, speed, and live mission updates in real time There’s no single live tracking app like how you might use for flights but there are lots of ways that you can be updated about what’s happening. This mission is expected to last about 10 days and it will carry astronauts around the Moon and safely back to Earth. This article is going to reveal where you can track Artemis 2, how to monitor its speed, and updates.

Can You Track Artemis 2 in Real Time?

You can follow Artemis II’s position using NASA’s visualization tools and updates, but it’s not true real time GPS tracking. There’s no live GPS so NASA has provided visual tracking tools, updates, and mission dashboards that show the spacecraft’s position relative to Earth and the Moon. I also want to add that these tools are based on calculations rather than precise location in space. The reason for this is because Artemis 2 follows a predefined flight path or a path that’s already been determined and this is known as the free-return trajectory. This type of trajectory allows the spacecraft to loop around the Moon and return to Earth naturally using the force of gravity. Mission data about this is shared through official NASA platforms (website, social media etc.). Live dashboards and trusted space news websites.

Best Ways to Check Artemis 2 Location

NASA’s Official Tracker

The best way to follow Artemis 2 is through NASA. NASA provides official tracking visuals and mission dashboards during Artemis II through its mission pages and also live coverage. These tools reveals the Orion spacecraft's trajectory, distance, and mission progress as it travels between Earth and the Moon using real mission data. You can see you the spacecraft’s trajectory path and key milestones throughout the mission. This is the closest thing to a real time tracker available to the public and it’s frequently updated using NASA’s mission data.

Live News and Space Websites

There are lots of trusted new websites that release real-time updates and explanations about the Artemis II mission. Some of these websites include Space.com and Live Science. If you don’t want to NASA, you can also visit the sites I mentioned because they will most likely have information about the Trans lunar Injection (when the spacecraft heads towards the Moon), its Lunar Flyby, and Return Trajectory toward Earth.

Social Media and Livestreams

You can follow NASA on different social media platforms for new updates about the Artemis II. NASA also has an official YouTube channel so you can just subscribe for important information. During this mission, NASA should make posts about new updates so social media is your best bet if you don’t want to follow NASA.

Checking Artemis 2 Speed

Tracking the Speed of Artemis is not a possibility because we cannot see a constant number. This is because the Spacecraft’s velocity frequently changes throughout the mission so only someone who actually works at NASA should know this. It wouldn’t be a smart idea for NASA to keep publishing a figure that frequently changes so it’s highly unlikely. Now, all I can say is that during launch, the rocket accelerates to escape Earth’s gravity. Once it’s in space, the Orion spacecraft enters a phase where the speed stabilizes. The speed will increase again during the translunar injection and when the spacecraft engine push toward the moon. The fastest phase during this mission occurs during reentry when the Orion reaches speed of around 25,000 mph (about 40,000 km/h) at it plunges back towards Earth’s atmosphere. You can follow NASA’s official mission pages to check updates. It’s unlikely a speed update will be revealed but who knows.

Why Artemis 2 Doesn’t Have a Live GPS Tracker

Unlike airplanes or Cars, Artemis 2 cannot be tracked using GPS. This is because space missions rely on a network of Antennas on the ground and this includes NASA’s Deep Space Network to monitor the Orion spacecraft position and transmit data. Another reason for this is that the mission follows a fixed trajectory that’s already been carefully planned before launch. This is because NASA doesn’t want any disruption because a time mistake can cost the lives of the Crew. Artemis 2 uses a looping path around Earth and the Moon that’s usually described as free-return trajectory.

Closure

Tracking Artemis II is possible using NASA’s official tools, live updates, and trusted news sources. Everything outside that is suspicious and should not be trusted. You can follow the Spacecraft’s location, speed, and mission progress through NASA. Lots of people also wonder about the mission speed but it changes depending on the mission phase. It’s really easy to follow news updates about Artemis 2 because of social media but you won’t see detailed information on the Internet unless NASA decides to release that info.
