PC players should also make space needed by the HoYoverse launcher, as it uses a small amount of storage before the game content is downloaded. The overall size of PC is larger than Android and iOS because the PC version of the game has better graphics and audio quality.
PC users may also have the option to install the game on as SSD or large hard-drive which helps performance but you still need enough storage before downloading it. It’s also common for updates to increase this total over time so reserving extra storage is a good idea if you want to keep up with new content. I want to point out that there might be details online about the game being 20 to 30GB or even higher in some devices but that was when the game was new. Honkai: Star Rails has gone through so many updates and added content since its original release so 82+ GB on PC is more accurate.
How Much Storage Does Honkai: Star Rail Take on PS5?
As of early 2026, Honkai: Star Rail takes 145+ GB on the PS5. There’s a lot of media reportage saying the game’s storage on PS5 is 30 GB but they are wrong. When the game originally released it was most likely that size but after all the updates, Honkai: Star Rail is easily 145+ GB. If you plan on downloading the Honkai: Star Rail on PS5 with additional content included (even updates), make sure your PS5 has more than 150+ GB of storage. Honkai: Star Rail’s storage is higher on the PS5 because it has better visuals, better audio quality and upgraded cinematic when compared to its PC and mobile counterparts.
Updates in the PS5 are also higher when compared to the PC and Mobile. On Mobile and PC, Honkai: Star Rail updates can take from 1-3 GB of storage but on the PS5, that same update can consume up to 8 GB worth of storage.
Why Honkai: Star Rail Takes so Much Space
Honkai: Star Rails large storage size is due to the quality and scale of its assets and content. The game features high resolution 3D environments, detailed character models, and smooth animations which require large texture and model files to run perfectly. These high quality assets take up more space than simpler mobile games. The story of the game is also fully voiced in multiple languages which suggests that audio files for each language pack can add several gigabytes to its total size. Finally, Honkai: Star Rail is a live service game with frequent updates and events which introduces new areas, characters, quests, and cinematic that increases the games storage over time.
How Updates Increase Honkai Star: Rail Storage over Time
Honkai: Star Rail storage grows gradually with every major update because each patch introduces new playable regions, story content, and character that must be downloaded and stored. This is why I mentioned in the PC section of reports saying the game was 20 to 30 GB even though its 82+ GB now. Newer patches can require several gigabytes of pre-download data before installation, and the game also needs temporary free space to unpack and install these files properly. Older files are sometimes kept in cache or as backups during this process, increasing its total storage space.

The first way to reduce the games storage is by deleting unused voice packs. This just means you can remove extra language voice files you don’t use and it can take several gigabytes. You can also uninstall and reinstall the game to remove leftover resources but I don’t encourage this and it should be considered as a last resort. If you’re a mobile user, don’t preload updates unless you have extra space. This is because pre-downloads can temporarily increase the game’s storage requirement.
Is Honkai: Star Rails Worth the Storage Space
Despite its storage demands, lots of players find Honkai: Star Rail worth the space because of its engaging story, strategic combat, and frequent combat that keeps he game fresh. I just started the game recently and I personally find it interesting. The fully voiced dialogues and the games environment also enhances people experience. The storage cost really depends on your devices capacity and how you want to experience the game.
