The HyperX Cloud III has gained a lot of attention is the gaming headset market because of its perfect balance between sound quality, comfort and price. It was also designed for both casual and competitive gamers so it works for a lot of people. This means it’s a popular successor to Cloud II but lots of people, especially competitive gamers still wonder if they should get this headset. One thing that confuses many people who plan on getting it is that it comes in both wired and wireless versions, hence buyers might not know which one is actually worth buying. This article is going to breakdown details about the HyperX Cloud III including sound quality, microphone performance, comfort, pros and cons, which will help you decide if you should get the Hyper x Cloud 3 headset or not.
The HyperX Cloud III is a gaming headset that’s available in two versions, which are wired and wireless. This headset is designed for multi-platform use including the PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Mobile Devices so it’s loved by both casual and Competitive gamers. The Wired version connects via 3.5mm, USB-A, or USB-C offering a stable and zero-latency experience without needing battery life (because it’s wired). The Wireless version on the other hand uses a 2.4GHz USB dongle connection allowing gaming with a long battery life that doesn’t require a cable. Both versions also feature custom-tuned (retuned) 53mm angled drivers, a detachable noise cancelling microphone, and HyperX’s signature memory foam comfort making them a really good option for long gaming sessions.
Firstly, both the Wired and Wireless versions of the Hyper x Cloud 3(HyperX Cloud III) use retuned 53mm angled drivers which means they were designed for a natural and balanced sound system or profile(or whatever you want to call it). Instead of a heavy bass, the sound system focuses on clarity and accuracy making it easy to hear the environment such as footsteps and directional cues. This makes it good for competitive games for instance FPS games. The wired version benefits from zero audio latency. The Wireless version uses a 2.4GHz connection that provides low latency performance with very little delay. Both versions (wired and wireless) offers a similar audio quality.
Both models of the Hyper x Cloud 3 include a detachable 10mm noise cancellation microphone which delivers clear voice communication for multiplayer gaming and calls. The Wired version provides a more stable mic performance (it’s just slight) while the Wireless version also maintains good enough clarity for most users.
The main difference is how they connect and this should be pretty obvious based on the version type. The Wired version is connected and requires no charging. It works instantly when connected via Cable. The Wireless version of the Hyper x Cloud 3 uses a USB dongle and it offers a very long battery life (around 120 hours), hence the reason it’s still loved by so many people.
The comfort of the Hyper x Cloud 3 is a standout feature across both versions. The Wired and Wireless versions of the HyperX Cloud III use a plush memory foam ear cushions and a durable frame designed for long gaming sessions. Its lightweight design also helps reduce pressure making both models ideal for extended use without comfort.
In the case of Pros, the headset has excellent comfort with plush memory foam and a lightweight design which is ideal for long sessions. Secondly, it has a very clear detachable microphone with good noise reduction for in-game communication. Another pros is that the wired version of this headset is compatible with the PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and Mobile. The Wireless model isn’t supported on Xbox yet. In addition to that, the HyperX Cloud III uses a plastic frame with metal reinforcement that improves its longevity and finally, the Wireless version offers a long battery life (120 hours) suggesting that it’s one of the best in its class. In short, the headset is praised for being comfortable even after it’s been used for hours.
As for Cons, the HyperX Cloud III has a less bass-heavy sound when compared to older models like Cloud II. Secondly, the headset has no Bluetooth support because the Wireless model uses only a USB dongle. The Wireless version may also have minor connectivity issues on some systems although it’s nothing serious. The Final Con is that this headset doesn’t have any major audio upgrade over Cloud II

The answer is yes, the HyperX Cloud III performs very well for gaming especially in competitive scenarios. It has a balanced sound system or profile and angled drivers so it’s easy to hear the background environment and directional cues. An example I spoke on was on heading footsteps in an FPS or esport game. The Wired version of the game offers zero latency meanwhile the Wireless version has a really good performance for players. DTS Headphone: X spatial audio on PC can also help in improving position awareness in supported games. This headset works well for both casual and competitive gaming but it was designed for people who want clear communication and comfort.
The HyperX Cloud III is a great choice for people who want a reliable and very comfortable gaming headset. If you play games for a long period of time and want comfort, then this headset is for you. This is because of its lightweight design and its soft memory foam cushioning. It’s also suited for competitive gamers where clear audio matters and positional awareness (with regards to environment). Streamers and gamers who love multiplayer games can also benefit from the clear Microphone quality. Whether you choose the Wired or Wireless, you will still get the same good results if you believe it suits you.
This headset may not be a good choice for people who prefer a strong, and heavy bass audio. If you also want detailed or like studio-level sounds then its better if you go for a more premium option. If you already have Cloud II, it’s also good that you don’t expect a major sound quality upgrade so you don’t end up disappointed. Finally, if you prefer to connect via Bluetooth, then the Wireless model or version might not be the best option because it relies on a USB dongle.
The HyperX Cloud is worth buying for most gamers. This is because it’s very comfortable, it has a good build quality, and a clear audio so it performs well for casual and competitive gaming. The Wired version is good for people who want zero latency and meanwhile the Wireless version has a very impressive battery life (100+ hours). However, it may not be the best choice if you prefer a heavy bass or a major audio upgrade from previous versions. Overall, it’s a pretty good headset for music, gaming, watching movies and more.
