Your Discord Messages Will Soon Appear in Google Search Results

There’s a new information that’s going across the Internet. Discord made an announcement on October 27, 2026 that messages from eligible public channels will appear in Google and other Search engines in the near future. This means Discord might just be a “new reddit”. The rollout for this is on Mid-December and there’s also going to be new privacy options. Lots of Discord users are upset about this news but there’s some good news. This article is going to talk about this new information

When Will Discord Messages Appear in Google Search?

An article was released on Discord’s official website emphasizing on how messages from eligible public channels will appear in Google and other Search Engines (i.e. Bing, Yahoo etc.). Based on the information released by Discord, they will create Server Web Pages for all Discoverable Servers, with automated summaries potentially appearing on November 16, 2026. Okay so around Mid December 2026, messages from eligible Public Channels will start appearing in web searches. A criteria was also put on Discoverable Servers. This just means that discoverable servers must have at least 1000 members and should meet age, activity and safety requirement. This means some channels filled with hate, slurs and other immoral stuff might not be discoverable.

You Can Stop Your Messages from Appearing on Google

Fortunately, you can stop your messages from appearing on Google. I feel like Discord this this to show that they value user privacy. They even gave a guide on what to do but I will break it down easily so you don’t read through long paragraphs to understand

-If you are a member and you want to stop this, go to your User Settings -> Data and Privacy and then disable Channel Messages Settings

- If you are a Server administrator, go to Server Settings -> Web Presence and exclude the channels of your choice or you can disable message sharing across the server.

It’s important that you do this immediately. Discord messages appearing on Google is going to be a gradual process especially when it comes to indexing. That’s why I’m saying you should do this immediately if you aren’t interested. From the information released, most Avatars and usernames won’t appear alongside Indexed messages. Messages sent before the mid-December Rollout won’t be included but messages shared while the setting is enabled may remain visible unless it’s deleted.

The Exclusions

Message Sharing is off by default for Discord users in the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea. Adult users in the rest of the World will have this feature enabled by default although you can still turn it off. Teen users are also excluded from this feature. Private servers, Direct Messages and Group DMs are not also included.

Closure

Its currently uncertain why Discord decided to do this but I feel like it’s because of more discovery. If Discord servers are in Web Searches that means guides and other valuable information will be there. This was the platform will gain more traction and more users because people will be exposed to it. It might also be monetized.
