Wildlight Entertainment shuts down Highguard

Highguard is shutting down just weeks after its release. This has surprised a lot of players because it was anticipated earlier on that the game would grow over time. Highguard is a multiplayer shooter game developed by Wildlight Entertainment. The game launched on January 26, 2026 on the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game struggled to maintain momentum so its servers are now scheduled to go offline on March 12, 2026, which is roughly six weeks after its launch.


Reason for Highguard Shutdown / Official Statement


Highguard is officially shutting down six after the games launch. This information was released on X, formally known as Twitter by official PlayHighguard account. According to developers, the decision to shut down Highguard came after the game failed to sustain a large enough player base to support its long term development. Wildlight Entertainment also confirmed that despite the games strong initial interest, the game could not maintain consistent player numbers. Reports also show that the game reached tens of thousands of concurrent players shortly after launch but it rapidly lost most of them in the weeks that followed.

The studio also made mention of how it appreciated the community’s support but it ultimately couldn’t build a sustainable player base needed to keep the live service shooter running. As a result of this, the team decided to shut down servers permanently rather than continue development with declining engagement.

The shutdown announcement sparked a lot of reactions across gaming communities. People who played the game and invested a lot in the game where disappointed it was shutting down. Others were not surprised because the games numbers had dropped. People who didn’t know about the game didn’t care about the announcement. The shutdown of the game also brought about debates on the nature of live-service game. There are lots of big multiplayer titles that shut down quickly if they fail to maintain strong engagement so Highguard just joined the list of ambitious shooters that failed to survive a crowded market.


What Happens Next


One final update of the game will be released before the game shuts down. This farewell update will include a new playable character, a new weapon, and progression features designed to give players one last experience with the game. The game will no longer be playable after its servers go offline on March 12 because it relies entirely on online multiplayer servers. The shutdown will end support for the game only weeks after debut. This is an opportunity for people who haven’t tried the game to do so before it becomes non-existent.
