How to Get Traces of Darkness in MapleStory

Traces of Darkness is a progression resource used in the Genesis Weapon questline in Maplestory. Lots of Maplestory know about this resource but the issue is getting a lot of it. Maplestory players need large amounts of Traces of Darkness in order to complete liberation missions and unlock Genesis Weapon quests which means it’s a very important resource in the game. There are ways of obtaining it such as clearing some weekly bosses but not all bosses will reward you with Traces of Darkness in Maplestory. This article is going to talk about what Traces of Darkness is in Maplestory, how to unlock Traces of Darkness, all bosses that give Traces of Darkness, fastest ways to farm this resource, what its used for and why your Trace gain might seem low.


What Are Traces of Darkness in Maplestory


Traces of Darkness is a progression resource that’s part of the Genesis Weapon Liberation system in Maplestory. These resource is earned from boss clears in the game and it’s used to complete liberation quests such as Arkarium, Damien, Will, Lucid, and Verus Hilla missions. It’s a very important resource because it’s a recruitment alongside different boss challenges in the game. For instance a player who is currently working on the “Traces of Lucid, Keeper of Nightmares” quest must also collect 1,000 Traces of Darkness while completing the boss challenge to complete the requirements. At some point in time in the game, every Maplestory character will have to learn about Traces of Darkness because its part of the games system/story/progression.


How to Unlock Traces of Darkness in Maplestory


In order to unlock Traces of Darkness in Maplestory game, you first need to reach the Genesis Weapon questline. When you reach this part of the story, you need to accept the “Trailing the Traces of the Black Mage” quest. It’s a must that you accept this quest. Once the quest has been accepted, you just need to progress through the liberation missions while you start accumulating “Traces of Darkness” from different eligible bosses in the game.

Some Maplestory players believe they can unlock and collect Traces of Darkness if they don’t the Genesis Weapons quest but they are wrong. If you are progressing through another game content (for instance Arcane River) and you haven’t started Genesis Weapon quest, you won’t be able to collect Traces of Darkness. Try to reach the Genesis Weapon quest and accept the “Trailing the Traces of the Black Mage” quest to unlock Traces of Darkness in Maplestory.

This section is going to be broken down based on the boss, their strength (Easy, Normal, Chaos, and Hard), and points (Traces of Darkness Given). You will face easy and Normal bosses early on in the game meanwhile chaos and hard bosses will be faced in the late stages of the game. The Sources of Traces of Darkness based on Bosses include:

3. Easy Lucid (15 Traces of Darkness)

4. Easy Will (15 Traces of Darkness)

7. Normal Will (25 Traces of Darkness)

8. Normal Darknell (25 traces of Darkness)

9. Hard Damien (50 Traces of Darkness)

10. Hard Lotus (50 Traces of Darkness)

11. Hard Lucid (65 Traces of Darkness)

12. Chaos Gloom (65 Traces of Darkness)

13. Hard Will (75 Traces of Darkness)

14. Hard Darknell (75 Traces of Darkness)

15. Hard verus Hilla (90 Traces of Darkness)

16. Hard Black Mage (600 traces of Darkness)

Hard Black Mage is like an endgame source so if you complete a Single Hard Black Mage, you get more traces of Darkness than completing several low tier bosses in Maplestory.


Why Your Trace Gains Might Seem Low


Your Trace of Darkness points might seem low because traces are divided among party members so a larger party will receive a smaller share per player. This means if you are in a team with six players and a boss awards 60 Traces of Darkness, that 60 will be divided among six people in your team making it feel small.


Fastest Way to Farm Traces of Darkness


If you want to farm Traces of Darkness fast whether you are in a team, go for hard bosses for instance Hard Versus Hilla, Hard Will, Hard Lucid, Hard Lotus, and Hard Damien. You can go for normal bosses because they add up every week which gives you points but you should go for Hard Bosses if you actually want enough points.


What Are Traces of Darkness Used For in Maplestory?


Traces of Darkness are used to complete Genesis Weapon Liberation quests and also unlock later stages of the liberation process. Different quests in this game require different amounts and this ranges from hundreds to over a thousand traces. For instance the Arkarium quest requires 500 Traces of Darkness meanwhile later missions such as Lucid and Will require 1000. Traces of Darkness are part of the progression resource in the game.

Traces of Darkness are a very important part of the Genesis Weapon Progression. Maplestory players can earn them by defeating eligible weekly bosses. Hard bosses will give you a higher Trace of Darkness count meanwhile easy and normal bosses will give you a small Trace of Darkness count. The best way to get Traces of Darkness is by clearing many bosses as you can every week but you need to focus hard bosses to get enough Traces of Darkness.
