How to Add Friends in Brawlhalla

Brawlhalla is currently one of the most popular platform fighting
games. The game is loved by a lot of fans and it also has cross platform play across PC, consoles and mobile. This makes teaming up with friends across different consoles very easy. It also means you have lots of players to go against during vs. matches. This guide is going to walk you through the fastest ways to add and invite friends in Brawlhalla, whether it’s through your platforms Social System or by linking Ubisoft Connect for smoother Crossplay and account management. This article is also going to reveal how to link accounts, send friend requests, create private lobbies, and also how to fix common invite issues.
Understanding the Brawlhalla Friend System
Before proceeding to the important parts of the article, I would first like to talk about the Friend System in Brawlhalla. Brawlhalla supports full crossplay across PC, console and mobile so the friend system in this game is intertwined with your platform account and Ubisoft account. This makes the Brawlhalla friend system is little more complicated than other games.
Your friends list is managed by the platform you’re using be it on Steam, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Switch and even though you can play against or with friends on other platforms via crossplay, you may not always be able to “add’ them into a joint friend list unless you go through a custom lobby or room code. Linking your platform account to your Ubisoft account unlocks the game’s account linking features that includes Cross-inventory and Cross-progression. Through this, you can use one linked accounts inventory across platforms and progress with them (across all platforms also).
I would also like to point out that even though you can link accounts for inventory and progression benefits, your friend list and clan membership still depends on the current platform account you’re playing on. This might not make a lot of sense now but as you read through the article, you would understand better.
How to Add Friends in Brawlhalla. Step by Step Guide
1. On PC (Steam/Epic Games)
-If you’re on PC, the first step is to launch Brawlhalla and make sure you’re logged into your platform account (whether it’s on Steam or Epic Games).
-Navigate to the top-right corner of the lobby and click the “Social/Friends” icon to open the Friend list.
-If you recently played with someone you want to add, locate them in the ‘Recent Players” section. If that’s not the case, you would need to find them through your platform friends list be it on Steam or Epic because Brawlhalla uses the platform’s friend system.
-On the player’s profile, choose the “Add Friend” option. They would need to accept the invite first before they show up in your Brawlhalla Friend list.
-Once they officially become part of your friend list, you can Invite, watch, or join them directly when youre online.
2. On PlayStation (PS4/PS5)
-To add people on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in Brawlhalla, first ensure that your PSN account is active and crossplay is enabled in settings. I would also like to point out that friend list in cross platform may be limited but there’s no issue.
-In Brawlhalla’s lobby, open the Social Menu by clicking a button that resembles the games social icon or PS overlay.
-Use your PSN friends list to add the person. You need to add friends in PS4 and PS5 via PSN because Brawlhalla uses your platforms social system to populate friends.
-Once they accept the PSN request, they should appear in your game’s friend list under your PlayStation account identity.
-To play together, open a lobby and invite them via your Friends List. You can also use a Custom Game room code or Custom Lobby Method if you want to. I’ve written about about creating a Custom Game Lobby in Brawlhalla so just scroll down if you want to read it.
3. On Xbox and Nintendo Switch
-To add people in Brawlhalla through Xbox (One, Series X/S) or Nintendo Switch, make sure your consoles friend system is set up. It’s the Xbox Live Friends List and Nintendo Switch friend list respectively.
-Launch Brawlhalla and open the game’s social menu
-Add Friends via your consoles friend list. As mentioned above already, Brawlhalla links to the platforms social system tpo get or populate Friends.
-If the “Add Friends” option is greyed out in the game, it may mean the other player is on a differet platform. In this scenario, you need to use the Custom Lobby Room method. To know what this method is about, see the PlayStation section and Mobile section.
-After they're added, you can invite them via the games friend List for quick access into games
4. On Mobile(Android/ iOS)
-When talking on how to add people in Brawlhalla through Android and iOS, first install and open Brawlhalla on your mobile device and ensure you’re signed in.
-Unlike PC and consoles, Brawlhalla mobile currently doesn’t support a full friends list via the games social menu. The Friends List feature is exclusive to PC and consoles. In this case you need a Custom Game Lobby. You can read about how to create a custom game lobby in the “How to Invite a Friend in a Match” section of the article.
How to Invite a Friend in a Match in Brawlhalla
Before going further in this section, I am going to talk about the difference between “adding” and “inviting” a friend in Brawlhalla. Adding a Friend in Brawlhalla means placing them on your platforms or game’s friend list so you can see when they’re online. Inviting is the act of bringing them into a specific match or lobby to play immediately. You can use your friends list to invite friends on the same platform directly to come play with you but for cross platform play, invites require a room code and joining their lobby.
How to Create a Custom Game Lobby in Brawlhalla
To create a custom lobby and share the Code, open Custom Game -> Create Room from the main menu. You set your game rules and ten copy the six (6) digit room number shown at the top of the lobby. Share that code via Chat, Discord, or platform messages. Friends are supposed to choose “Custom Game” -> “Join Room” and enter the Code to join your private match. This is the most reliable cross platform method and it works on mobile making it good.
Same Platform Invites in Brawlhalla
In the case of same platform invites, open your game’s Friends or Social Menu while in the lobby and select Invite next to the friends name. They’ll receive an invite and can immediately jump into your lobby. If invites fail, try launching the game again or toggling crossplay or account linking
Local Multiplayer in Brawlhalla
On Consoles and PC, you can use local (couch) co-op by connecting additional controllers and selecting the local lobby mode. This is a quick way to play with friends on the same TV without any issues.
Crossplay and Ubisoft Account Information in Brawlhalla
For Multiplayer to work across different platforms, Brawlhalla uses Ubisoft’s unified account system. All platforms are connected through your Ubisoft account and this serves as the main link for features like crossplay, cross inventory and full cross progression soon. To set it up;
First launch the game and go to Settings -> Account Linking and sign into or create a Ubisoft account
On each platform you play (PC, Console, mobile), link the platform account to your Ubisoft account. You can only link one account per platform.
Once linked, you can enable cross-progression if available so earned XP, ranks and cosmetics carry across platforms.
Linking your accounts is very beneficial because it ensures all your items and progressions are accessible across devices. Friend list and clan membership cannot be varied over and they’re tied to your current platform. If you encounter issues such as linking stalls, try logging into another Ubisoft game first to establish the link then you later retry. I decided to add this section because it’s an important aspect of adding friends in Brawlhalla.
Common Problems When Adding Friends in Brawlhalla
Most Brawlhalla players don’t face too many problem adding friends when they follow the required steps because of the user friendly interface but there are some issues when trying to add friends in Brawlhalla. One frequent problem is attempting to add someone from a different platform and a message shows up saying “There is no way for players on different platforms to be friends.” For instance, a PC player cannot add a switch or mobile player in their game friend list. What this means is the friend system is restricted to the same platform.
Another issue is friends not showing up in the list after being added. This usually happens because of privacy or social setting on the platform are set too restrictively. Temporary server issue cause the “Friends list blank” issue even though you’re connected to the server.
To solve the Friend list issue, try removing the friend request and resend it, check your platforms profile/ friend list privacy settings, or switch to custom game lobby room code method which bypasses the friends list altogether.
Closure
From the above, it’s very easy to notice playing with Friends in Brawlhalla isn’t a direct process as your platform matters a lot. Brawlhalla also supports cross platform matchmaking because of Ubisoft Connect so you just need to link accounts and viola, everything will be fine. Try to check your setting and there but be some issues but it won’t be anything too serious.
